What makes us unique?

With matcha growing faster than ever, let’s chat about why we started.

Our founder @zoexmckenna has been drinking matcha for over 7 years.

After suffering with severe gut issues such as IBS, leaky gut, candida, h-pylori and consistent brain fog, she craved a solution that didn’t include taking medication.

After years of research and trial error - she finally healed all of her symptoms naturally.

Matcha was one of the superfoods she found along the way. It was one of those things that instantly made a difference.

Although her healing wasn’t all down to just matcha, it was something that helped massively in her journey.

So in 2023 she opened the matcha bar with the promise to make sure everything that was served - was actually good for you.

No fillers, emulsifiers or additives.

Just a tasty drink that benefits your long term health.

Today we have worked with many brands all over the UK and we continue to stick with our mission of “heal your gut, heal your mind”.

Matcha is not just a “trend” it’s one of the most powerful superfoods you can consume.

In 2023 I opened the matcha bar after 6 years of drinking matcha every day at home (but couldn’t find it anywhere in Scotland).

Not only did it heal my inflammatory gut issues - it helped optimise my performance as a business owner and mum of three.

I struggled for years with severe gut issues which caused many other issues such as brain fog, memory loss and feeling irritated all the time.

Matcha helped heal my gut, calm my mind and my immune system has never been better.

I’m so happy that the research is now out there to be seen by so many - as I’m so passionate about getting more matcha to more people.

Where it started vs where it’s going.

We re-opened on Saturday and WOW we were blown away by the amount of people that came down.

As the founder, someone who had a little idea to offer Matcha to the world of Scotland- it’s honestly just overwhelming to see a full shop of people.

Like any business, it has been a journey.

I have been developing and pivoting our products since we started. As a niche business, it’s not always easy to make profit.

But after 18 months, we are finally moving in the right direction.

We are working with leading companies around the UK and we are doing what we love, connecting with people at events, offering matcha all around Scotland and soon we will be able to offer it to even more people daily (more to come soon).

To everyone that has travelled down to the shop. To everyone that talks about us, recommends us, shares our business with people. It means more than you know.

In a world where convenience is prioritised, and high quality options can be expensive, we are grateful for our customers who choose health.

Meet The Founder 🍵

Our founder @zoexmckenna decided to open Scotlands First Matcha Bar in 2023 as she couldn’t find a good quality Matcha anywhere.

Her passion for Matcha came after suffering with severe gut health issues which led to low mood, irritability and brain fog.

After years of suffering and trying to get to the root of the problem, she decided to try a number of holistic remedies to try heal her leaky inflamed gut.

Matcha was one of the things that not only helped soothe her gut, but also calmed her mind almost instantly. Not only that but it boosted her immune system entirely and made such a difference to her life and businesses.

After drinking 2 cups of matcha every day for the past 6 years, she struggled to understand why no one was selling this superfood in Edinburgh.

And when she did find it, she realised that the quality was pretty low.

Most Matcha she found tasted awful and was low quality, filled with sugary syrups or milks with artificial additives.

This is why MatchaMind was created.

She wanted to incorporate her expertise in Mind Performance for Entrepreneurs with Wellness & Matcha.

She wanted to offer something pure that would actually help people heal their gut and mind.

Every Matcha drink that is served has an ingredient that is beneficial for your gut.

Not all Matcha is good for you.

We are passionate about everyone getting the health benefits from Matcha:

But you will not get all of those benefits if you are drinking low quality matcha.

There is ceremonial matcha, culinary matcha and then just matcha (that’s not even real matcha).

Always opt for ceremonial matcha. There is also various grades of ceremonial (we use top grade ceremonial).

But if your adding in a lot of sugary syrups, milks filled with gums, thickeners and emulsifiers as well as bad quality matcha - then maybe your not getting the benefits you fully deserve.

Top tip: if your matcha is a darker more sage green then it’s probably not great. The brighter more vibrant matcha means you’re getting the first pick of the leaves.
